      Neighborhood Social Contracts

The Institute has negotiated social contracts in individual neighborhoods in Philadelphia  as well. The three that have had the greatest impact address a wide range of concerns:

Queen Village Social Contract-Negotiated in 1993, this Social Contract established mutual goals for community improvement between homeowners in Queen Village and tenant leaders of the Southwark Plaza public housing development. The social contract was developed in conjunction with a comprehensive modernization program for Southwark sponsored by the Philadelphia Housing Authority.

New Kensington Social Contract-This social contract was drafted in 1994, under the auspices of the New Kensington Community Development Corporation. The contract was conceived as part of a long-range strategic plan for economic and community development .

Cooke School/Logan Social Contract-This social contract was negotiated between the Jay Cooke Middle School, the Olney Cluster, and community leaders in the surrounding area of Logan. It defines the mutual responsibility of the School District, parents, and neighbornood associations to help students and faculty at Cooke meet their academic performance requirements established under Children Achieving .
